In a competition for a portable power system to be used by the US Army, the Pentagon has awarded a $1 million prize to Dupont and Smart Fuel Cell of Germany. The fuel cell utilizes a direct methanol fuel cell from Dupont and SFC’s Fuel Cell and Batteries to create an 8lb power system that can deliver 20watts of power for about 96 hours, compared to about 20lbs of batteries that soldiers have to put up with now. This new Fuel Cell System is already being delivered to the US Army.
